With the weather so strange this year I should have expected what little I have in the garden to not keep the same schedule as years past. I didn’t. The onions, which I did get planted on time this year (in May), decided the wide swings in temperature meant they should flower. Onions are biennials, which mean they form bulbs one year and flower the second. But not this year. So I enlisted the help of Alejandro and we quickly cut off all the emerging flower buds and pulled the onions. But since the weather isn’t truly warm enough yet, they are now in one of the greenhouses to see if I can get them to cure. We might be eating onions fresh. And making a lot of relish.

¡Cebollas!

Con el clima tan raro este año yo debería haberlo esperado que las pocas cosas estén plantados en mi quinta no mantienen el horario como años pasados. No pensé de esto. Las cebollas, que plante en bien tiempo en mayo, decidieron los cambios grandes de temperatura, significaron que deben florecer. Cebollas son bienales, forman bulbos un año, florezcan el año segundo. No este año. Entonces, pide la ayuda de Alejandro, cortamos los flores, y sacamos todas las cebollas. Ahora están puestos en un invernáculo porque el clima no es suficiente caloroso para dejarlos a secar afuera. Puede ser que vamos a comer las cebollas frescas. O hacemos mucha salsa criolla.
