The weather got a bit exciting here in Uruguay a couple of weeks ago and we were without power – off and on, but more off – for nearly two weeks. This is not necessarily unusual here, although this time was more complicated than normal. Typically, we have a generator for lengthier power outages. This year our generator had technical issues. The digital control panel went out and we can’t get a replacement for a while. The generator works just fine. But the control panel shuts it off automatically due to….something.

We finally got actual, consistent, reliable, power back last weekend. So I took pictures of the current state of our garden and thought I’d share an update. Then my computer’s SD slot decided to no longer work. My current camera is so old there’s no other way to transfer files. So I pulled out my even older camera because it transfers files via cable. I retook pictures of the garden. I connected all the cables. I waited a very long time for the camera and computer to talk. To discover that not only had I not used this camera in five years or so but I had over a 1,000 photos on it’s memory card. Which I needed to transfer to my computer to be able to sort by date to find the new garden photos.

I’ll admit I nearly quit. I didn’t. But let me tell you, it was close.

So, I have moved files, found files, sorted files, deleted files, and will shortly share some photos of the state of our garden. With luck, technology will be content with it’s recent victories in my life and we will return to some regular blog posting. But if there’s a bit of a pause, well, just imagine what could have gone wrong next.

El clima se puso un poco emocionante aquí en Uruguay hace un par de semanas y estuvimos sin electricidad, de vez en cuando, pero más apagada, durante casi dos semanas. Esto no es necesariamente inusual aquí, aunque esta vez fue más complicado de lo normal. Por lo general, tenemos un generador para cortes de energía más prolongados. Este año nuestro generador tuvo problemas técnicos. El panel de control digital se apagó y no podemos conseguir un repuesto por un tiempo. El generador funciona bien. Pero el panel de control lo apaga automáticamente debido a… algo.

Finalmente recuperamos luz real, consistente y confiable, el fin de semana pasado. Así que tomé fotos del estado actual de nuestro quinta y pensé en compartir. Entonces, la ranura SD de mi computadora decidió dejar de funcionar. Mi cámara actual es tan vieja que no hay otra forma de transferir las fotos. Así que saqué mi cámara aún más antigua porque transfiere fotos por cable. Volví a tomar fotos de la quinta. Conecté todos los cables. Esperé mucho tiempo a que la cámara y el ordenador hablaran. Descubrir que no solo no había usado esta cámara en cinco años más o menos, sino que tenía más de 1.000 fotos en su tarjeta de memoria. Que necesitaba transferir a mi computadora para poder ordenar por fecha para encontrar las nuevas fotos del jardín.

La verdad, estuve a punto de renunciar. No lo hice. Pero déjame decirte que estuvo cerca.

Por lo tanto, he movido fotos, encontrado fotos, ordenado fotos, eliminado fotos y en breve compartiré algunas fotos del estado de nuestro jardín. Con suerte, la tecnología estará contenta con sus recientes victorias en mi vida y volveremos a algunas publicaciones regulares en el blog. Pero si hay una pequeña pausa, bueno, imagínate lo que podría haber salido mal a continuación.
