<\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nThe “mother” really is a gelatinous mass. Very slimy to handle but comes off in one thick sheet. You can keep and re-use but I did not. I wasn’t really fond of the green mold on top, harmless or not. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I strained both vats, keeping the vinegars separated. It was a very messy process. Surprisingly time consuming. I expected a lot less residue and for it to strain quickly. Instead, lots of residual solids and it took a very long time to strain. I will plan better for the next batch. I started with nice, clean buckets, strainers, and cheesecloth. I ended up with a mess!<\/p>\n\n\n\n The vat which had the mother came out a beautiful yellow gold color. That vinegar I bottled. In the very low tech way of a glass measuring cup and patience. Again, my expectations were way off. I figured a dozen half-liter bottles or so. Final count for that batch was 15 liters total, about 25 bottles of various sizes. And I still have two batches of vinegar to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n The vinegar without a mother still got strained. But we are going to use it on farm for the test run of home-made herbicide, which is vinegar, a bit of liquid dish soap, and a dash of salt. So it has been sent off to wait with the backpack sprayers. We have to wait for a slightly sunny, non-windy day during a period in which it isn’t supposed to rain for a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I can hear everyone laughing. If you’ve heard us talk about our winter weather you know that’s not going to be easy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Las cubas de vinagre esper\u00f3. Y esper\u00f3 m\u00e1s. Burbuje\u00f3. Desarroll\u00f3 el olor de vinagre. Y luego las cubas dejaron de burbujear. Decid\u00ed que todo estaba tranquilo y deber\u00eda colar y embotellar el vinagre. Llevo todo afuera cuando tuvimos un poco de sol y no muy fr\u00edo. Pens\u00e9 que ser\u00eda mejor ensuciar el patio y no adentro la casa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Muy conveniente, unas de las cubas desarroll\u00f3 una “madre de vinagre” (la derecha) y una no (la izquierda). (Me gusta cuando tengo ejemplos de las dos opciones!) Seg\u00fan los que deber\u00edan saber, la “madre de vinagre” es un mass gelatinosa que come el alcohol de az\u00facares que no fueron convertidos durante el proceso de fermentaci\u00f3n. No es buena, no es mala. No importa. La cuba de vinagre con el ‘madre’ tuvo un olor y el color correcto, y lo que no tuvo, se parece un poco mala, pero tuvo el olor de vinagre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n La “madre” veramente es gelatinosa. Muy viscosa al tacto y puede sacar entero. Puede guardar para usar de nuevo. No me gust\u00f3 el hongo verde, no importe lo que dice el Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Col\u00e9 ambas cubas, siempre manteniendo las separadas. Fue un proceso muy sucio y llev\u00f3 mucho tiempo. Yo tuve la expectaci\u00f3n de menos residuos y por el proceso andar r\u00e1pido. No. Llev\u00f3 muchas horas y me qued\u00f3 con muchos residuos. \u00a1Por la pr\u00f3xima cuba, voy a tener un plan mejor! Yo empec\u00e9 con baldes, coladores, y telas limpias. \u00a1Al final, me qued\u00f3 un desastre!<\/p>\n\n\n\n La cuba que tuvo la “madre” resulto en un vinagre de un color amarillo claro. Ese vinagre embotell\u00e9. Con una taza de vidrio y paciencia. Di nuevo, tuve la idea que voy a recibir pocas botellas, m\u00e1s o menos seis de medio litro. No. Al final, tengo 15 litros en total, en 25 botellas de varios tama\u00f1os. \u00a1Y todav\u00eda tengo 2 cubas m\u00e1s para procesar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n El vinagre sin la “madre” yo col\u00e9 y vamos a usar en el campo en una receta por herbicida casera. Combinamos con un poco de jab\u00f3n l\u00edquido y sal.
