About us

I believe you don’t have to raise and shear the sheep to enjoy spinning the yarn or knitting the sweater. You don’t have to plant the tree to enjoy picking the fruit. Just because you shop at a grocery store doesn’t mean you don’t also want to try making your own vinegar out of citrus peels because you didn’t know you could and you wonder if it really works.

I went from corporate archivist to farmer, moving with my family from the United States to rural Uruguay for the chance to have a flock of sheep and explore the endless possibilities of farming. I fell in love with making things from what nature offers – from garden produce to natural dyes to breed specific yarn. I have spent more than a decade trying, and sometimes failing, to make from the land. Trying out “new” old ideas to see what works and what doesn’t. Every failure is a learning experience and every success is energizing.

Not everyone wants to have a farm or live an hour from the nearest town. Just because you enjoy living in a city or working in an office doesn’t mean you don’t also love what nature can provide. Learn about a new breed of sheep, harvest tomatoes for dinner, or feed piglets their breakfast without the day to day obligation of farming full time. Or just sit in the shade of a pecan tree and enjoy the birdsong. No matter if it’s through a virtual window or the window of our guest house, come share in our adventure of everyday farming.
